Getting Organized and Letting Go

To recap, for anyone new here, I have an almost 5-year-old, 2-year-old, and 1-year-old. So, needless to say, I was in the thick of baby years, and now I am full-on in toddler season. As I reflect, it’s easy to see how life can get hectic while raising little ones. Things that might have mattered pre-children just really don’t anymore. Before having kids, I kept my home spotless, clutter-free, and organized. Flash forward to babies, the immaculate home fell to the wayside, the organized home went away, and clutter became the usual. Which is the season, and I’ve been just OK with it. But with our cross-country move inching its way closer, I have been on the decluttering and organizing train, and I love it.
This will be our sixth move in the last 6 years, so we are not strangers to moving, but this will be our first move across the country, so we are preparing for this move in a much different way. Our priority so far has been to declutter and organize. Something about decluttering and organizing has been so refreshing. I think sometimes in life, we tend to hold onto things we don’t need for whatever reason, but I do believe there is beauty in letting go. Letting go of that three-year-old makeup (please don’t judge me), clothes that are a little too tight, broken toys, old Tupperware, and so much more. As I clean each cabinet and closet, I feel a sense of relief and accomplishment. A recent study in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin found that women who felt their homes were in order had lower levels of cortisol, the stress hormone. They showed improved mood, increased productivity, and reduced stress. Who knew?!?! Believe me, if there was ever a time for me to do something to help my stress levels before a move, it’s now. But don’t wait for a huge life event to get organized. Embrace the beauty of letting go of those things you don’t need anymore, embrace the improved mood from decluttering, and enjoy the accomplishment of cleaning out that shoe closet or junk drawer! I hope you all enjoy some of my before and after videos of organizing and decluttering in the projects tab; it’s been fun!
Below, I have included a link to my Amazon storefront with some of my favorite items to get organized! Here’s to letting go!
