Not My Pinterest Dream

One thing about seasons of life is that you aren’t always in the season you envision. As we prepared for our move and started looking for new homes, we knew that we would rent initially. For a handful of reasons, renting made the most sense for us. Understandably, we knew we would be limited with the projects we could take on for a rental. Luckily, our management company is very flexible regarding updates to the house, but the kitchen is a project that doesn’t make sense to put time and money into when it’s not a home we own. With all that being said, our kitchen is the first room/gathering place in our house that we wanted to get put together. The kitchen has always been where everyone comes together, whether to talk, cook, or be just together.
To say I don’t love the kitchen is an understatement. When we started planning our new home, the ideal Pinterest home came to mind. I’m a millennial, so I love minimalist themes paired with tons of beige and little clutter. So, I did not envision having a kitchen with awful cherry-colored cabinets paired with the same awful cherry-colored wood floors and stainless steel appliances. My dream of a cozy beige kitchen aesthetic was dead.
But hey, that’s life, and part of being in this season is being flexible and open to new ideas and working with what we have. Adding different appliances, furniture, and accent pieces to the kitchen has been fun. It’s not as beige as I would like, LOL, but I’ll throw beige in where I can.
The kitchen has definitely grown on me. It will never be my Pinterest dream kitchen. Still, for now, it’s the gathering place for our family, a place to come together, eat, talk about our day, and see if our toddlers will actually eat what I make them 😉. This blog post is for those who aren’t quite at their Pinterest kitchen yet.
I have included some pics below of our kitchen before we moved in and what we’re working with now. It's a work in progress. I find that I want to add new things to the kitchen weekly to make it more fitting for what I want. I am new to photography, so bear with me; I am hoping to hone my picture-taking skills as I continue with our projects.
If you hop over to the Amazon Home Finds tab, I have included all the links to the appliances, furniture, and other pieces we added to the kitchen. As always, I will focus on toddler-friendly items and share various things we utilize in a toddler environment.
Great post! I can see why you're not a fan of the kitchen but it's definitely worth playing into the darker tones. I personally love a really dark and moody kitchen. I am envisioning really deep greens, navy, and burgundy tones with pops of brass or gold. - cora
